Scientific challenge projects

Internal calls for projects have been organised since 2014 in order to :

  • Contribute to develop the « excellence » or « leadership » of the Research centre
  • Develop new research topics, new skills  (« ground-breaking » projects)
  • Support the development of emerging approaches or innovative methodologies:
  • omics (genomics, metagenomics, metabolomics, isotopomics…)
  • epigenetics and epigenomics
  • pheno or chemo-typing approaches
  • big data, modelling
  • plants in urban ou suburban environment

The scientific leader had to belong to a research unit/team of the SFR Quasav

Structures outside SFR QUASAV may be partners, but only structures from the Pays de la Loire region can be funded.

Type of funded projects : PhD or Post-doc projects (salary + running costs < 125 k€), Starter projects to initiate new research themes (< 25 k€).

Evaluation process

Each project was reviewed by 2 external experts (national or international) according to the following criteria:

  • Originality and Novelty / state of the art
  • Feasibility
  • Valorization potential (for the team and for the recruited scientist)
  • Relevance / scientific approach
  • Relevance / financial support and existing resources

A total of 106 projects have been submitted and 60 have been funded (33 PhDs, 8 post-docs and 19 starters) for an amount of €5.4 million (all grants included)

  8 projects have been selected in 2019 for an amount of €0.78 million (all grants included).

Interdisciplinary projects

The call for projects is open on an ongoing basis. Its aim is to strengthen interdisciplinarity with regional and external (national or international) teams, even if external teams cannot be financed from the Objectif Végétal budget.

The project must receive co-financing in the order of 50 %.

Evaluation process

Each project is reviewed with the help of an external expert (national or international) according to the following criteria:

  • adequacy with the research priorities of Objectif Végétal or the development of innovative approaches;
  • interdisciplinarity;
  • novelty of the partnerships and expected outcomes of these partnerships;
  • importance of the co-financing brought to the project.

 3 projects have been selected since 2014 for an amount of € 311 000 (all grants included)

"New researchers" projects

The call for projects is open on an ongoing basis. It aims to encourage the arrival of confirmed and promising researchers in the Pays de la Loire region by offering them a "running costs envelope" to enable them to launch their research activities as quickly as possible. The researcher must be appointed to a statutory post.

The project must receive co-financing in the order of 50 %.

Evaluation process

Each project is reviewed with the help of an external expert (national or international) according to the following criteria:

  • candidate profile ;
  • added value for the Region and the Objectif Végétal programme;
  • research project, adequacy with Objectif Végétal programme's priority areas or the development of innovative approaches;
  • co-financing of the project.

 3 projects have been selected since 2014 for an amount of € 247 170 (all grants included).
